KUCHING: Sarawak’s transformation into a forward-looking and innovation-driven economy has positioned the state as a leader in renewable energy, digitalisation, and advanced manufacturing, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He said as the world moves rapidly towards digitalisation and environmental sustainability, Sarawak has adapted and aligned its economic strategy with global trends through innovation and the adoption of new technologies.
“We are leveraging our strengths from renewable energy and digital innovation to natural resources and a skilled workforce to position Sarawak as a regional leader in clean industries, advanced technology, and modern manufacturing.
“When the time comes, Sarawak will become a regional powerhouse, not only within Malaysia but also in Southeast Asia and beyond,” he said in a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) report.
His speech was read by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian at the Sarawak Manufacturers Association (SMA) 2025 Dinner and Awards Ceremony here on Sunday.
Abang Johari also said that the state’s journey towards sustainable progress would not be possible without the support and participation of industry players such as manufacturers, producers, and entrepreneurs.
“Your efforts to adopt modern technology, improve productivity, and expand into global markets will be key in driving Sarawak’s growth and securing its place in the international economy,” he said.
He added that the Sarawak government remains steadfast in supporting industrial growth through sound policies, infrastructure investment, and a business environment that encourages innovation and collaboration.
Among those present were Deputy International Trade, Industry and Investment Minister Datuk Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment permanent secretary Dzulkornain Masron, as well as SMA president Peter Chai Mui Seng and secretary-general Stephen Ang Teck Chai.
