MEESty was established on 4th January 2022 through The Sarawak Government Gazette Part II, Vol. LXXVII, dated 21 January 2022, No. 6. with the aim of spearhead Sarawak state’s efforts in catalyzing a transformative shift towards a greener and more sustainable future and ultimate goal of propelling the region towards net zero carbon by 2050.

Led by the visionary leadership of Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Sarawak, The Right Honourable Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg and supported by Deputy Minister, The Honourable Datuk Dr. Haji Hazland bin Haji Abang Hipni, MEESty is entrusted with the crucial responsible for policy formulation for development of energy sector and environmental sustainability for Sarawak.

The main focus of MEESty is to ensure a clean energy and sustainable environment for Sarawak. MEESty is committed to this cause and takes a proactive approach. The Ministry collaborates closely with other agencies, relevant stakeholders, private sectors, and industries to achieve the desired outcomes.

Under MEESty’s purview, MEESty oversees three (3) agencies dedicated to energy and environmental sustainability matters. These agencies are Sarawak Energy Berhad, SESCO; PETROS; and Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB).

MEESty officially commenced its operations on 3rd January 2023. Its current location is on the 3rd Floor, Baitul Makmur Building 1, Petra Jaya.
