KUCHING: Sarawak further reinforced its position as a regional clean energy hub through the signing of seven Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between the State Government and several leading industry players covering various strategic renewable energy sectors.
Sarawak Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki said the MoUs reflect the confidence of investors and industry players in Sarawak’s commitment to spur the clean energy transition, thereby solidifying the state’s role as a renewable energy leader in the region.
“This strategic collaboration not only supports the implementation of the Energy Transition Policy but also serves as a catalyst for the development of green technologies that will generate economic spillover benefits for Sarawakians,” he said.
He spoke during the inaugural Public-Industry Engagement Day organised by the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Sarawak (MEESty) at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Monday.
The event was officiated by Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg who also launched the Sarawak Energy Transition Policy (SET-P) as one of the state's new policy frameworks.
Additionally, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar stressed that the cross-sector collaboration will be driven by strong governance, more efficient regulatory coordination, and the adoption of digital technologies to ensure the benefits of development reach all Sarawakians including those in rural areas.
Meanwhile, the seven MoUs cover initiatives in liquid hydrogen production, bio-LNG development, bioethanol production, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), the development of green data centres, the construction of hybrid solar power plants, and an innovative agrivoltaic project that combines solar energy technology with agriculture. -UKASnews
