Energy Council

KUCHING: The Sarawak Government is currently exploring the possibility of establishing the Sarawak Energy Council as part of efforts to coordinate all stakeholders in the energy sector.

According to Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, this would ensure that their business policies and operations are aligned with the state’s policies.

“We are in the process of engaging with the private sector, and today’s event is part of that process.

“This is to ensure consensus between the private and public sectors. Only then can we formulate suitable policies,” he said.

He said this in a press conference after the Public Industry Engagement Day and Launching Ceremony of the Sarawak Energy Transition Policy (SET-P) held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Monday.

Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari said the establishment of the council will be carried out in stages to ensure effective implementation.

However, he noted that its implementation would likely take place next year, as the remaining four months of this year would not be sufficient to see it materialise.

Also present were Speaker of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, Minister for Transport, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, Sarawak Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Ministers, heads of departments and other dignitaries. -UKASnews
